WINTER VACATION: what I’m packing for France

December 8, 2016

We’re going to France!!

This weekend Joe and I are heading to France…we’ll be splitting our time between Paris and Bordeaux (city vs wine country), and packing for this trip has been SO HARD. The weather will be anywhere from 30-50 degrees, so typical winter weather. But planning which coats to bring, what shoes are both comfortable AND waterproof, and finding cold weather accessories has been a big challenge. So I’m sharing exactly what I’ll be packing (keeping in mind an 11 hour plane ride, forecasted rain and both city and country aesthetics) with some traveling tips as well! Here you go:

This may be even more important than what you’ll be packing inside. Finding suitable luggage is a must and an investment that will pay dividends every single time you travel. My big suitcase I’m bringing is this DVF spinner luggage, both stylish AND very very lightweight. I found these adorable Henri Bendel shoe bags that will keep the rest of your clothes clean inside your suitcase, and these customizable luggage tags that I had my initials stamped on (would make a great gift!). Instead of bringing my big everyday wallet, I found this Kate Spade passport holder that also doubles as a wallet to hold all of my essential credentials for travel.

(^I also found this portable cell phone charger by Kate Spade! For days you’ll be away from home all day, this is the perfect battery to keep your phone alive!)

For the plane:

I always bring one large tote when traveling, and this year I found this perfect Marc Jacobs purse during Cyber Monday. It’s big enough to hold everything I need with a comfortable strap as well as handles. Inside, I have my Bose QuietComfort head phones (a MUST for long flights!), my Henri Bendel eye mask (which comes with a freezable gel insert for puffy eyes), and my Kindle Paperwhite & Kate Spade cover (currently downloaded with “Little Big Lies”!).

Keeping in mind the long flight, be sure to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. This will help with any jet lag and force you to get up and move around when heading to the bathroom! I bring my Hydroflask  because it will keep your water cold the entire flight. I also will be packing this Dr Jart face mask and Fresh hydrating serum to keep my skin from drying out on the plane; these sheet masks will instantly hydrate your skin, and a dose of this serum will have you dewy and ready to hit the streets when you deplane. I also have this facial mist from LILAH B  for added moisture! One addition to my ‘in flight’ accessories are these fur lined slipper socks or butter slipper socks. Instead of keeping your shoes on all flight and being uncomfortable, throw on a pair of these slipper socks! You’ll be comfy and also able to walk around the plane.

Clothes & Shoes:

It’s almost impossible to choose what to bring on a trip like this, so I tried to keep it as simple as possible. I chose 4 of my favorite winter coats to start: this KATE SPADE red coat, a pink TOP SHOP coat, similar herehere and here, a black VINCE coat and a grey  J CREW cocoon coat. Then I packed 2 sweater dresses (one in black and one white sweater dress), 3 sweaters (black, white and grey), a combo of black pants (these MADEWELL velvet skinnies and H & M suede leggings) and these sweater tights / black tights to wear with my dresses.

Shoes is a toughie too! I decided to go with a pair of tall boots (these OTK boots and here), short chelsea boots (JOHNSTON & MURPHY waterproof boots,  DR MARTEN chelsea boots and STUART WEITZMAN chelsea boots), a pair of sneakers to work out/walk in (these NIKE sneakers) and one pair of loafers for dressier nights (these GUCCI Marmont ones).

And the last thing to think about is accessories. I made sure to pack a few beanies because it’s going to be chilly! I love this pink beanie and this grey knit beanie, these leather fur gloves (which are tech compatible so you can still use your phone while wearing!), and a simple wool hat like this Janessa Leone hat or this one. I alsoade sure to have a travel, compact umbrella for those rainy days, and this TOTE compact umbrella pack extremely well. I grabbed my most recent arrival from Ditto, these Prada sunglasses (remember you get 1 month free with code “vogueinvines”) and lastly a comfy pajama set from Target, this red pajama set or black pajamas.

(^I also always pack a few ‘stackable’ pieces of jewelry. I like to bring things that will be comfortable to wear and match all my outfits. I’m bringing these Prada sunnies from DITTO along with a NARS lip pencil in ‘Lodhi’, DUOCCE lip stain in ‘red velvet’ and IT COSMETICS lip flush.

So that’s what I’m packing! Be sure to follow along with me on Instagram @vogueinvines to see what we’ll be up to in France. We have some AMAZING wineries we’ll be visiting and I’ll be taking as many photos as possible…
