That Napa #vanlife

October 27, 2017

This lifestyle is blowing up all over the world. While we definitely are not living in our van ourselves (could you imagine 3 dogs full-time in this Westy?!), some of our generation is deciding to ditch the expensive rent payments, conventional housing, and shack up in their vans! We found our Big Blue 82 Volkswagen Westfalia on Craigslist after searching for months for the perfect van and couldn’t be more pumped to have it. We’ve only taken it camping in California, but planning a Pacific Northcoast road trip for next year!

(^Franklin always calls Shotgun)

I don’t know who loves this van more…Joe or the pups. Whenever they hear the heavy van door open, they go crazy with excitement. Since this is a camper van and intended to be slept in, the back seats fold down perfectly into a flat bed and can accommodate two huge dogs. When we camp in Big Blue, Frank and I sleep on the top bunk (the top pops up and a bed folds down), and Joe and the big boys sleep on the bottom bunk. We also just purchased an attachable awning that will fold out into a full tent, connecting and surrounding the sliding door (we purchase most accessories from Go Westy). This will allow a whole separate tented area outside of the car for the pups to hang out while we camp!

Besides the insane wines and amazing food here in Napa, we adore living here for the access to the vineyards. The pups love nothing more than running through the rows of grapes and chasing the jackrabbits that live in the vineyards. While Napa has a fantastic dog park (called Alston Park located on the west side of Napa), it’s nice to let the boys run around by themselves sometimes.

(^It’s almost impossible to get all 3 dogs -and Joe- to pose for a picture…this is about as good as it gets)

Looking forward to following your adventures in the van! My fiance’s parents let us use their Mercedes Sprinter for the eclipse – incredibly fun way to travel. Outfitted with a fridge, microwave and tool for us to sleep together, it got me totally jazzed about van travel.
